Voices in Action: National Coalition Against Domestic Violence's 18th Annual Conference (September 16 - 18, 2019) Washington, D.C.
Many of us use “ally” to describe that we are supportive of underrepresented communities. In this workshop, participants will have the opportunity to explore what being a co-conspirator means through the lens of power, privilege, and oppression. We’ll discuss how to take responsibility for the power we hold and use it to engage in meaningful action towards addressing domestic violence. Participants will walk away with concrete action steps for creating an environment that is survivor-led, survivor-centered, and inclusive.
Deconstructing Oppression: Moving from Ally to Co-Conspirator Workshop (September 14, 2019) Washington, D.C.
Far too often, the work of dismantling systems of oppression falls onto marginalized communities. What does it actually mean to be supportive? In this interactive workshop, we discuss the skills and tools that move us from standing with the community to taking purposeful action towards dismantling the structures that continue to foster all types of oppression. We’ll talk about moving from being an ally to becoming a co-conspirator and how we can work hand in hand with marginalized groups to build solidarity for change, action, and understanding.

Beyond the Breakthrough at the National Sexual Assault Conference (NSAC) acknowledges the monumental shift in the public awareness about sexual harassment, abuse, and assault led by the Me Too Movement.
An interactive workshop during which participants will explore varied manifestations of privilege and oppression. Building on that foundation, participants will learn the elements of cultural humility and how to aptly apply its framework to all aspects of organizations’ administration from policies and procedures, to outreach and engagement, to service provision.

This workshop addresses radical self-care as it relates to sexual assault advocates of color. We talk about how power and oppression has affected us personally and professionally. We will develop a plan to look at self-care holistically so we can sustain our work in the movement to end sexual violence.
